Winter Break Movement Fun

If your child’s sugar high and post-Christmas excitement still hasn’t worn off, but your patience definitely has… you’re not alone.

Winter break often brings extra treats, disrupted routines, and way more screen time than usual. When outdoor play isn’t an option, all that energy has to go somewhere — and it usually shows up as wiggles, meltdowns, and short fuses.

That’s where movement-based sensory play comes in.

The activities in the graphic above are designed to give kids the kind of heavy work, balance, and whole-body movement their nervous systems are craving. These sensory inputs help regulate energy levels, improve focus, and calm big emotions — all while keeping things playful and fun.

You don’t need fancy equipment or a big space. Pillows, paper plates, blankets, and a little imagination can turn your living room into a movement zone that helps kids burn off steam in healthy ways.

And when the temperatures finally cooperate?

There’s truly nothing better than fresh air and fresh snow to reset bodies and brains and wash away those sugar- and screen-time fueled fits.

Until then, try a few of these indoor movement ideas — your child’s body will thank you, and your nervous system might too.
